City vs. Country
The cabby whose taxi I rode in today literally wears two hats. He dons a baseball cap when he's driving his cab and puts on this straw hat when he's farming. This is not uncommon in Bangkok as many cabbies here come from the countryside to drive a taxi between rice plantings and harvests, or when extra income is desperately needed. I asked the driver of this taxi which job he prefers and he told me that he would much rather do farming than drive in this city full of traffic jams and crazy people.

Sarong for a Superhero
When it comes to showing skin in public, Thais are generally very modest. It's common to see Thais at the beach wearing long shirts and pants, and in the locker room it's not acceptable to walk around in your birthday suit. Even the driver of this cabby couldn't tolerate having his muscle-bound action figure on the dashboard standing there without a cover up, so he added a sarong made out of double-sided sticky tape.
